subway dt
Slightly sleep-deprived after no sleep a night ago, only 8
hours last night (couldn't stop with the new computer, had an
interview at 9 with a guy named Wellie), and a marked inability
to nap either yesterday or today as the gears in my head spin
wildly out of control.
It is slightly disconcerting that I've had such trouble
sleeping, considering that it has usually been my greatest
talent.
The subway's pretty crowded with upupupper Manhattanites
heading downtown for the Friday night preceding a long weekend.
I'm hoping to get myself out to do some fun & culture to
take advantage of my last weekend as a woman free from the
omnipresent burden of homework & studying & (hopefully)
research. The possibility is worth considering, however, that
it may do me more good psychologically to stay in, play with my
current NYC infatuation (shiny delicious beautiful: my new laptop),
make a grandiose reconnection with the digital universe, maybe
go out just enough to get food. (Current pantry/fridge
belongings: the last swallow of a quart of milk, a carton of
oj, strawberries fresh from the street produce stands of
Manhattan, the end of a chunk of brie, wasabi rice crackers,
two refilled water bottles, and a box of cinnamon toast crunch.
(But I can't eat cinnamon stinking toast crunch without milk,
naturally.))
(Other food I've had since I've been here, in total, I
believe: 1 Grey's Papaya hot dog, 1 Papaya King hot dog (that's
probably about half the calories that have sustained me over
the past 96 hours), a cup of grapefruit sections, 2 pieces of
challah bread with lots of butter, a street pretzel, a bowl of
shrimp risotto, a banana, and one half of the most fucking
divine thin crust pizza with prosciutto, artichokes: the final
item being the result last night of going out for real with
people for the first time since I've been here.)
(NB: no alcohol is mentioned in the above due to my decision
to abstain at least until Dave & Becks' wedding at the end of
the month (!!!)NB again that the !!! is for them, not re:
the lack of drinking for four days, though one final thing to
note: it has been more frustrating and displeasing than I would
have expected, and that fact serves well as encouragement to me
that it is a good idea and I should not abandon it.)
